Waterfall Whispers
Waterfall Whispers offers a contemplative experience centered on the flow of water and the transformations it engenders. The work explores how the ever-moving current generates fleeting forms that dissolve as soon as they appear, revealing the silent presence of time and the slow, irreversible changes it brings.
The video recordings at the origin of the piece come from waterfalls in the Cantal, the artist’s native region. Rooted in the landscapes of his childhood, they testify to a territory shaped over centuries by erosion, natural variations, and the gradual evolution of its environments. Their memory is inscribed as much in the rock as in the movement of the current itself.
Within the work, these waterfalls gradually leave behind their familiar form to become digital portraits, sculpted by light and freed from their physical substance. Through a generative process, their liquid flows fragment, overlap, and recombine, continuously gliding from one form to another and giving rise to hybrid images that oscillate between appearance and disappearance. This fusion produces unprecedented figures, born from the meeting of multiple landscapes, existing only in the instant of their emergence, reminding us that nothing endures except the passage itself.
Waterfall Whispers invites viewers to perceive water as a vessel of memory, a current that flows through landscapes as much as it flows through time. By revealing a temporality in which the ephemeral leaves its traces, the work highlights the quiet continuity connecting the gestures of the current to the transformations of the natural world. Within this movement, which archives as much as it erases, emerges the fragility of the present, the depth of ecological cycles, and the urgent need to preserve the delicate balances that water carries, tirelessly, as a living testimony.
